Injection molding

Volumetric and gravimetric dosing systems are essential in injection molding. The injection molding manufacturing process produces parts from both thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic materials. Because of the high manufacturing costs of the molds, injection molding is primarily used in mass production where thousands of parts are being produced.

Gravimetric and volumetric feeders for injection molding

Movacolor develops and markets accurate gravimetric and volumetric feeders. All plastic parts produced by an injection molding machine need one standard: the highest quality. An accurate gravimetric or volumetric feeder is therefore an essential part of coloring main material by dosing colorants as masterbatch, regrind and liquids into the main material. The engineers of Movacolor are constantly working on innovative dosing solutions to reach the highest quality in injection molding possible.

The most accurate dosing technique for dosing masterbatch, powders and regrinds in injection molding is based on the use of the dosing cylinder. All gravimetric and volumetric feeders of Movacolor are equipped with a unique Movacolor dosing cylinder and dose extremely accurate. The dosing cylinder releases the additive in a steady flow directly into the main material without any pulsations or interruptions.

The stepper motor ensures maximum control without stoppages or pulses. The dosing method based on a dosing cylinder ensures therefore far more accurate dosing than other dosing techniques based on blending, using a screw, disc or feeding belt especially in modern injection molding machines with extreme short production cycles.

Injection molding applications with gravimetric dosing technology

Movacolor’s gravimetric feeders, also known as loss-in-weight feeders,  are extremely accurate thanks to the unique gravimetric dosing technology and therefor suitable for injection molding where accuracy is crucial. Every product made by an injection molding machine should have equal features when using the same mold. The gravimetric feeders of Movacolor are equipped with a load cell that measures exactly the weight of the additives that are added into the main material stream. This way the output of the injection molding machine is always the same high quality.

A modular dosing system for injection molding

The gravimetric and volumetric feeders designed for the injection molding industry are easy to operate. They are designed in a way every operator in the plastics industry can work with it. The modular design allows plastic producers using an injection molding machine to gain a custom-made dosing unit which perfectly fits their specific type of production. It is easily to adjust, extend or to upgrade the dosing unit.
