Nowadays there is more cooperation between the two countries. Movacolor in Sneek, to name one example, has a close cooperation with the Japanese company Matsui. Wednesday morning the Kurobe delegation visited this Sneker company. This company on the De Hemmen II industrial estate sells products all over the world. Two percent are sold in the Netherlands, 98 percent of our turnover comes from the rest of the world,” says Bas Nieuwenhuis, technical manager of Movacolor. The company specializes in customized dosing solutions for the plastics industry.

Sustainability

Because sustainability is a high priority, visitors were given a red backpack made from recycled plastic to take home. Since four years the company is located in a new building at the Wolkammerstraat, after years of working from the Koperslagerstraat. The building is designed for growth,” says marketing manager Marc Bosma. So new customers from Japan or elsewhere are very welcome. Whether the city of Kurobe will also become a customer, of course, remains to be seen. “Although they have asked interested questions. We’ll see what comes of it, in any case the contacts have been made,” says Bosma.

Tour around Friesland

In four days, Kurobe mayor Takekuma and his fellow board members visited the Fries Scheepvaart Museum, the Waterpoort and Movacolor in Sneek. Cultural history center De Tiid, Houtstad IJlst, the 11Fonteinen fountain in IJlst and the Jopie Huisman Museum in Workum were also visited. The Japanese ambassador was also present at Tuesday’s dinner at the Lauswolt Estate.
