In the plastics industry, savings go hand in hand with a stable and sustainable production process. However, a key challenge is efficiently reusing scrap material (regrind) without compromising product quality or color consistency. Traditional dosing systems often struggle to accurately handle regrind alongside materials like masterbatch and free-flowering powerders, leading to waste, color variations, and higher costs. Movacolor asked its engineers to develop a dosing machine that can dose scrap and waste directly as regrind along with the masterbatch or free-flowing powder and correlate the volume of color directly to the volume of regrind. The engineers answered with the\u202f<\/span>MCS Regrind<\/span><\/a>,\u202f<\/span>MDS HO Balance<\/span><\/a>, and\u202f<\/span>MBS Blender 3-series.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dosing equipment for simultaneous dosing of masterbatch and regrind<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n

The MCS Regrind dosing unit is engineered for the precise dosing of regrind plastic, whether in pellet, flake or irregular form. <\/span>This unit uses two gravimetric MDS Balance systems to adjust the regrind and masterbatch volumes. The more regrind material added, the less masterbatch is needed, and vice versa. This accurate dosing method not only helps reduce masterbatch consumption but also maximizes the efficient use of scrap material.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For applications involving plastic injection molding and extrusion lines, regrind must be introduced into the process without affecting the melting or gelation process in the screw. Movacolor\u2019s MDS HO Balance, available in both volumetric and gravimetric versions, ensures that regrind is blended seamlessly, even with variations in bulk density. It can process up to 1,000 kg\/h and works in tandem with the MMS Weight, which measures the main material flow, and the MDS Balance for dosing color, catalyst, or other additives.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an extrusion process, regrind can take various forms, suchs as flakes, irregular pieces, or pellets. It can be factory scrap or post-consumer scrap. In all forms, it is important that it is added into the process in such a way that it will not disturb the melting and\/or gelation process in the screw. Therefore, the dosing volume must be constant and its amount should follow the volume of the main flow, also with high fluctuations in bulk density.
